A recent survey carried out by the Bosh Group and released in December 2011 shows a very interesting developing trend in the travel market. The Bosh Group is a global supplier of technology and services and spends more than 3.5 billion Euros every year for research and development - and this last body of research is quite significant to holiday-makers, but more especially to homeowners.
According to this study, 60% of travel consumers in the UK want to go on holidays that would not involve an important budget for hotels. Hotels are considered too expensive and 17% of those questioned said they had already totally moved away from hotels and chosen renting accommodation instead. More than half of the participants clearly said that renting a room or flat in a modern house for a short-term holiday was better value for money.
Besides high prices, other reasons are behind this growing preference. Impersonal service was cited as a major inconvenience by the interviewees. Renting accommodation gives consumers the chance to avoid venues where tourists flock in numbers and get a more genuine feel to the holiday. Added to this and on a more logistical level, it gives renters increased independence, more privacy and extra space. Away from other tourists, inside a peaceful environment, smaller budgets - that is what today's UK-based travelers are looking for, according to the Bosh Group.
According to a UK holiday-maker specialized in holiday rentals interviewed by the Bosh Group, the coming Olympics 2012 will increase the demand of rental accommodation dramatically, with London at the center of this phenomenon. The main reason is that all other costs related to the event such as entry tickets, air tickets, transport fares, food etc are already a big chunk of the summer 2012 traveler's budget and saving money wherever possible will be the priority next summer. This of course will be to the great advantage of homeowners in London and around the capital.
With serious economic difficulties threatening the country and beyond, added to this fresh desire to feel more independent in one's travels, holiday rentals are bound to grow in the near future.
